“In Life, You Need Either Inspiration or Desperation” – Anthony Robbins
I came across this quote the other day, and thought it would be a great discussion for “News, Facts & Fitness Monday”. I’ve seen these 2 words referenced when it comes to health & fitness. It got me thinking. When you see people that have adopted a healthy lifestyle (when they weren’t healthy at some point), you will notice that in most cases, its done out of either inspiration or desperation.
Ask yourself this. Why do you stay healthy? What got you started on your journey?
For me, it was a big wake up call after having a baby. I was pretty healthy before, but something definitely changed when I had my little girl. I was so scared about keeping the weight on, and not being able to fit in my pre-pregnancy clothes. It sparked something in me.
I know now, that it was desperation! And boy, let me tell you, if you’ve ever been in that place (or a similar situation), you’ll know that desperation can be a big motivator.
People run into problems when they reach their goals and they’re not sure where to go from there. Yo-yo dieters are a perfect example. They are no longer desperate, they’ve regained their health and they’re no longer in the warning zone.
Many people adopt a healthy lifestyle due to medical reasons. Their doctor has told them to lose weight, they are at risk for diabetes or a heart attack. Or simply they’ve hit rock bottom. They feel tired of being sick and tired.
I think people automatically think I’m motivated all the time, and that I “love” exercise. To be honest, I love the feeling after, not the act itself. I go through spurts of being unmotivated too. But something has changed with how I get motivated now. I look for motivation through INSPIRATION!
What inspires me? Plenty of things. New workouts, new routines, new recipes and food. You can see the keyword is “new”. I like to keep things fresh! I also posted some of my favorite ways to stay motivated here.
Maybe that’s how you found me, and this website? Perhaps you were looking for inspiration for new and healthy recipes, perhaps some fitness inspiration and ideas, or perhaps for a sense of community?
I hope you continue to stay motivated, inspired and continue reaching your goals. Don’t forget, support is critical too.
