Favorite Find: Eco Friendly Dishwasher Detergent

Hey everyone!  How does it feel to be back in the swing of things?  Kids back at school, summer coming to an end.  I must say, I’m happy in my routine.  I eat better, exercise more, so in turn, I feel much better!

I’ve been meaning to post about this great product for a while!  As you may have seen in previous posts, I’m starting to experiment more with eco-friendly products.  I’ve been very much into health food for years, but for some reason, I’ve stuck to my “mainstream” cosmetics and various products like dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, etc.

I’ve been washing my floors with vinegar for a couple years now (especially with a little one, hardwood & tile floors & 2 doggies), and I hate the smell of harsh chemicals…it makes my eyes water!

When it comes to eco-friendly alternatives, I’ve seen the brand Ecover in various health food stores I visit.  My first hesitation about “natural” cleaning products are…..do they work?  As a busy working mom, I don’t have the time to clean something twice, or in the case of dishes…flake off all that crusty stuff that is left on the dishes if they don’t get cleaned properly (eww!).  I’ve always been hesitant to spend my money on something that doesn’t work.

When it comes to washing dishes, I don’t rinse, unless its REALLY dirty.  When I put them in the dishwasher, there is food lingering.  I figure, if I rinse them so well, than what’s the point of a dishwasher, right?!  We do try to save water when using the dishwasher by using the light, 1 hr or smart-wash cycles.  We tend to eat mostly at home, and I’m always testing new recipes, so we are doing at least 1 load of dishes per day.

So I was delighted when Ecover sent me a sample box of their dishwasher tabs to give them a try.  I knew they would have a run for their money!!

Here’s the dishwasher detergent I was using (NOT eco-friendly).

Here’s what Ecover sent me….

I must say, I was very impressed with the results!!  I honestly didn’t think they would perform as well as the Cascade, but they did!  One evening we used the Ecover, the following night, the Cascade, then compared the two.  Couldn’t tell the difference, at all!!!  No spots, no food leftovers, and dishes were left squeaky clean.

So if your looking to make the switch to eco, I’d definitely give Ecover a try!

From what I can see, their products are available just about everywhere in the US (US Where To Buy), and Canada (Canada Where To Buy).

Question: Are you thinking about switching to more Eco-Friendly household products?

See you tomorrow!
