Favorite Find: Healthier fix next time you crave chips…

Happy Wednesday! Mid-week already!  This isn’t exactly a “new” Favorite Find, but I haven’t posted about it before.

I’m no stranger to Popchips. I first discovered them at a friends party.  They were served instead of chips. Brilliant!  Not fried, and crunchy chip-like taste.  Then, I started seeing them in stores. I’ve bought the big bag from Costco before in the BBQ flavor.  I think I got them for camping.

So here and there, I’ve mentioned Popchips and how delish they are, and a great alternative to chips when you crave them.

Then, I get this unexpected package in the mail, from the Popchips people!

Aww, thanks guys!  (Chip-chatting…how cute is that!)

I got to try a few flavors I hadn’t before, Sour Cream & Onion, Cheddar & Salt & Pepper

Sienna was in there like a dirty shirt, wanting to dig in asap.

(Don’t know why I didn’t think to tidy my disastrous kitchen before taking pics.  Ah well, let be honest, that’s how it normally looks! 😉 )

The Verdict?

The first flavor we tried was the Sour Cream & Onion, and I must say, it was our overall favorite.  I barely had 3, and she hogged the rest 😉 Sour Cream & Onion is normally one of my favorite chip flavors, so it was no surprise it was my fave.  Hubby liked the cheddar a lot, but he is also a cheddar chip fan.  Me, not so much.  None of them were bad, it totally just depends on your personal preference.

The salt & pepper would be a good substitute for a cracker. I bet a goat cheese and cranberry spread on top would be very good!

When she came up for air, she showed off the bag…

Ingredients/Nutrition:

Here’s the link if you want to take a peek at the ingredients. It varies with each flavor.  As of August 2011, their products are certified gluten-free, so that’s great too!

Nutrition wise, they are a TON better than regular chips as 1 oz (22 chips) has 120 cals, 4 g of fat, 20 g carbs.  Definitely a better alternative if you need a chip fix.  Of course, we all know there are healthier snacks out there (whole foods), but sometimes you need a chip, and this fits the bill!

Where to Buy?

I’m pretty sure this can be found in most major grocery stores in the US/Canada.  I’ve seen them everywhere.  Some stores carry more flavors that others though.

QUESTION: Have you tried Popchips?

See you tomorrow with a new recipe!
