Tough Mudder

Greetings all!  Got back late yesterday from being up in Whistler.  Brent competed in the Tough Mudder race with some friends from work.

A bunch of his family also came up from Edmonton and competed as well (but were on a different team).

Have you heard about it? Done it? Know someone that’s done it?

Apparently, they are popping up all over the place in the US and Canada.  Basically its a huge obstacle course (around 20 obstacles) with a half marathon thrown in.  I’m totally wishing I could have done it!  Next year for sure.  It looks like a TON of fun.  There is one in Calgary in July and another in Whistler again in August.  My hubby LOVED it and definitely wants to do more.

Unfortunately, due to my pregnancy pelvis issues, I wasn’t even able to watch this time around.  It was a long walk (like 1-2 km) from the shuttles to the finish line, which would’ve been too far for me to waddle in pain.

Thankfully one of the other team members wives took my camera and snapped some pics!

Brent and one of his teammates…(hubby is in the grey shorts)

A view of one of the obstacles (crawling under barbwire)

Another obstacle right near the end…running through live wires (some of them were live, some weren’t)

His team…all done! Tired, but they all completed it!

Brent said it was pretty much as he expected.  He liked it much better than doing his triathlon, liked how it was more team based (you helped your team get through all the obstacles).  There were some part he said that were tough (like jumping in the icy cold lake), but much of it was mental and pushing yourself to do it.  The cardio portion wasn’t as intense as he expected, probably because it was a lot of stop and go, plus making sure the team stayed together.

I’ll be doing it next year….who’s else is in???!!!! 🙂
