Well its a long weekend here in Canada, so its Monday, but really, it feels like Sunday! Love it! I’ve had an amazingly productive weekend (with hubby away to boot!) I cleaned out my entire kitchen and re-organized. Its been a really, really long time. Its hard to do things like that with a busy toddler! But hey, at least it got done! Sienna helped too! For all her hard work we went to the park each day!
Today I wanted to talk about a few workout DVD’s! Since much of the information I want to provide is to help busy people maintain a healthy lifestyle, I thought it would be great to post some of my favorite workout dvd’s. I know as a new mom, and when I was prepping for competition, I wasn’t able to get to the gym all the time. So it was great to have some workouts to do at home. They helped me get into this condition only 7 months post baby!! *With a great nutrition program too of course 😉
But first you have to decide whether you are the type to workout at home or not. I actually tend to do better leaving the house versus working out at home. I only workout at home if I have to. I’m actually much more consistent when I’m physically leaving the house. But some people are the opposite, they find they are more consistent doing workouts at home. If time is the main issue, having a small arsenal of home workouts is great, as you can be done and in the shower within 30-40 minutes!
There are A LOT of workout DVD’s out there, so this is just a small sampling. These are the ones I see as most effective and most entertaining (ie. can keep my short attention span!!) and you’ll get the most bang for your buck.
1) P90X
There are A LOT of great workouts in this series. My favorites are the Plyo workout and the Ab Ripper. I like how there is a timer on the video at the bottom of the screen which counts you down. Its all about the small goals! Then its over before you know it! Your supposed to have a chin-up bar to do it, but I don’t, and to be honest, I don’t work my chest much anyway. You get a lot of chest work in pushups and I do plenty of those in bootcamp style workouts.
2) Tony Horton’s 10 minute Trainer
The same guy that does P90X offers this condensed version. This one gets 5 stars for busy people. It really gets your heart pumping in 10 minutes, I’ve done it! If your short on time, bang out a couple of these, and you’re good to go!!
3) ChaLEAN Extreme or Turbo Jam (the old version)
Both of these are instructed by Chalene Johnson. I personally have the Turbo Jam and actually did it for cardio during my contest prep. She recently came out with Turbo Fire, and I like how its in a big group setting, it looks pretty good!
4) Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred
If you’re a Jillian fan, I’ve heard good reviews about her workouts. I like that they use resistance training, and you get a great workout in a short amount of time.
5) Jackie Warner One-On-One Training
I’ve also seen great reviews on Jackie’s video. This is more of a 1-on-1 style workout, so if your looking to get pumped up by being in a group setting, than it may not be the best, but if you want the 1-on-1 feel, Jackie is great and knows her stuff.
6) Insanity
Yet another video from Beach Body. Instructed by Shaun T (who is very cute I may add 😉 This is a very tough interval workout. Long bursts of work, followed with short rest breaks. I know I few people that have done this one and they say it is HARD…and they are comparing it to P90X. So its another real kick butt workout. Want to burn 600 calories in an hour, this may be the one!!
But PLEASE don’t forget, you won’t get results with ANY of these unless its paired with a good nutrition program.
If you have no idea where to start, I’ve spent a bunch of time and created a FREE REPORT. “How I Get In Shape for Summer”. This will be a good quick start for you. If you have any questions, feel free to post on the blog, facebook page or email me: [email protected] and I’ll answer your questions as best I can!
Question: Which DVD’s do you have and like???
