Working Out With A Partner

Happy Wednesday!

So I’m finally feeling better! Phew!  I will report that my workout with my trainer kicked my butt last night!  We did a great full body workout.  Weights, cardio…intervals and sprints.

Hopefully you’re starting to get back in routine too!  If you’re really unmotivated to get to the gym, you may want to consider working out with a partner.

It can definitely make you more accountable and help you be consistent.  Here are some other great reasons….

Can help you get out of bed.

If you know your meeting someone at the gym in the morning, you’re more likely to stop hitting snooze and get up!!

It can become habit.

Treat it like you would any other appointment.  Then it can just become part of your day and week.  It takes 3 weeks to form a habit, so in the first weeks of getting on a program, its great to have to motivation of having a partner!

You’ll work harder.

Sometimes when you workout on your own, your not likely to push yourself as hard as you could.  You may not push that extra rep or increase the speed on the treadmill.  If your partner is good competiton it may drive you to one-up the other person.  Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition!!  You can also give each other that push and words of encouragement!

More variety.

There are certain workout moves that you can only do with a partner.  Examples: The wheelbarrow push-up, where one person does a push-up while the other (standing) person holds on to the ankles. The holder has to squat as the person goes down toward the floor, so the exercise works the muscles of both involved.  Another good one is sit ups & clap.  You sit facing each other

Stay social.

Working out alone can take time away from your social life. But working out with a friend allows the two of you to catch up on work, life, and all the rest without doing so over, say, calorie-laden beers and pizza!

So how do you find a workout buddy if you don’t already have one? Here’s some ideas:

-Public Parks

-Mommy stroller clubs

-That person next to you in kickboxing class

-Another ‘regular’ you see at your timeslot at the gym

Don’t be afraid to talk to them!  After all, your there at the gym for the same reason, to look great and feel great!
