Its Wednesday! As usual, I’m crunched for time, so right to my “Favorite Find Wednesday!”
People ask me quite often what my favorite protein powders are. I’ve tried many brands and flavors of whey protein, but obviously not all of them (as there are HUNDREDS!) So this is simply a few standouts I’ve come across that have made my favorite’s list!
First things first, I always have the same criteria. Must be under 130 calories per serving, approx 25g protein, low sugar (less than 5 grams) and low carb (less than 5 grams).
If you’re looking for some NON-WHEY alternatives. See my entire post on that here.
Here are my Favorites:
I tend to use SISU a lot in baking, especially when giving it to my little one as its sweetened with stevia.
SISU Whey Protein Isolate (in vanilla, chocolate & unflavored)
Unfortunately, SISU is only available in Canada. You can find a store near you that will carry it HERE. Disclaimer: I’ve actually worked with this company for 6+ years. But, I have used their products since I was 15 years old (my Mom was a fan). So even if I didn’t work for the company, I’d still buy it.
The SISU and the Whey Gourmet Naturelle are the 2 I use in baking. The Whey Gourmet Naturelle is a great natural product also sweetened with stevia. My favorite flavors are: Chocolate, Vanilla, Matcha Green Tea & Chai Latte. Although in baking, I just stick to vanilla and chocolate. You can buy online through their online store (US/Canada), or look for stores locally (in Canada)
What can I say? This makes the BEST protein brownie, hands down (and I’ve tried with many other brands. The flavors I love in this brand are Peanut Butter Chocolate (above), Cookies & Cream, Vanilla Ice Cream, Milk Chocolate, Strawberry/Banana. Even though it contains artificial sweeteners, I still can’t give it up… but I try to have it in moderation.
This one contains artificial sweeteners too, so I don’t have it all the time, but the Lean Dessert flavors are awesome too. Very smooth. The Cinnamon Roll flavor is amazing stirred into oatmeal with unsweetened almond milk. p.s. Note, I never cook protein with my oatmeal, I mix the protein and milk separate to make a thin pudding, then pour in over the oatmeal once its cooked. My favorites: Cinnamon Roll, Banana Cream Pudding, Whipped Vanilla Cream (To be fair, I haven’t tried Chocolate Fudge or Banana Nut Bread)
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard
I haven’t tried many flavors in this brand, but I their Cake Batter flavor is pretty good. I also hear ON has a more natural brand sweetened with cane sugar, but I’ve yet to try it. I had a hard time finding the “Cake Batter” flavor in stores, but they always seem to have it here at Bodybuilding.com:
Another brand I haven’t tried but hear great things about is the Jay Robb brand, which is sweetened with stevia. That is available in the US.
What are some of your favorite brands and flavors? I’m always open to new ones!
See you on Friday…..
